Description

The electric coffee grinder "Timemore Sculptor 078S" is an absolute eye-catcher and the new star in the espresso grinder sky. It impresses with its modern, minimalist design typical of Timemore and fits into any kitchen thanks to its compact size.

The grinder is equipped with the already celebrated Flat Burrs from Timemore, which ensure particularly even and balanced grinding results. It has 50 stepless grinding settings with almost infinite intermediate levels, making it an absolute espresso expert, ensuring a balanced structure with a really pleasant acid-sweet balance. The grinder also delivers convincing results for pour-over or French press preparations. Setting the perfect grinding level is very convenient and precise using the huge adjustment wheel on the front. The patented rotary beater optimally removes grinding residues from the ejection.

You control the grinding using the sufficiently sized start-stop button on the right edge of the grinder. Thanks to the pleasant feel, this is easily possible without even looking.

In addition to the grinding level, you can also adjust the speed of the 400 watt brushless motor on the Sculptor. With a dial on the back of the grinder, you can choose between 800 and 1400 rpm.

Detailed questions

How do I adjust the grinding level?

The large, unmissable adjustment wheel on the front of the grinder is equipped with 50 setting options. These are also completely stepless, allowing the grinder to be adjusted very precisely.
The setting options are really incredibly versatile and the grinding results are perfectly consistent. The fine settings can be reproduced very well. You can also change the zero point of the mill further if, for example, the fine gradations are not enough. To do this, unscrew the front grinding disc and move the grinding disc suspensions anti-clockwise in the specified steps.

Which settings do you recommend depending on the preparation method?

Our experience of the grinding level depending on the preparation method with the Sculptor 078S is as follows:
Espresso: 2-10
Mocha: 10-25
Pour over: 25-35
French Press: 35-45
As always, the settings can of course depend on many factors and it is important to familiarize yourself with the grinder.

How do I clean the grinder?

Important: Please unplug the appliance before cleaning!
To clean the grinder, first remove the bean container. This is attached to the grinder with two small screws. Then you can carefully remove the last residue from the grinder with a brush or carefully vacuum it out with a vacuum cleaner. Then remove the grinder cover, i.e. the adjustment wheel and the metal disk behind it. Behind this are the attachments for the two grinding disks. Carefully remove these and clean them with a dry brush or the vacuum cleaner. Then put everything back together.
Another important note: Do not use water or other liquids to clean the grinder as this may cause damage.

How fast does the mill grind?

The Timemore 078S grinds impressively fast and can grind 21g of coffee beans in just 10 seconds, although the grinding speed can be influenced by factors such as the grind size and the type of bean.

How big is the mill?

The mill has the following dimensions:
- Height: 30cm
- Width: 12cm
- Depth: 26.3 cm (required space including Schuko plug)
- Weight: 7.9 kg (measured)

How much coffee can the bean container hold?

Since this is a single dosing grinder, the size of the bean container is kept quite small. Especially because the focus is on espresso. You can fit a maximum of 30g of beans in it and put the lid on. Grinding works best with quantities of up to 22-25g, which is easily enough for double espressos.
And on top: For all those who would like more volume, Timemore will soon be offering a replacement hopper.

How loud is the mill?

The grinder has a brushless motor, which is quieter than conventional grinder motors. The noise level of the grinder also depends on the speed, the degree of grinding and the amount of coffee. The average noise level of the grinder at a speed of 1400 rpm is just over 70 dB.

How big is the dead space of the mill?

To put it in the words of the coffee makers: 18in - 18out, 18in - 18out.
This is also the answer to the question about dead space: it is virtually zero during operation.
Basically, anything where individual coffee particles remain in the machine during the grinding process is referred to as dead space, such as in screw holes, between grinding discs, or in the channels that transport the beans from the hopper to the ground coffee container.
Initial measurements showed a dead space of 0.1gr.
Important: To measure the dead space, the Timemore Sculptor's knocking mechanism was always used, as intended. This removes any remaining ground coffee in the grinder's ejection slot.

What speed should be used?

The speed can be adjusted between 800 and 1400 revolutions per minute (RPM). We have found that the influence of RPM on the grinding result is barely noticeable or minimal. However, experimenting with the speeds is an interesting way to fine-tune even further. Our team prefers to use the grinder at 1400 RPM, which keeps the grinding to a minimum.

What are the main differences between the Sculptor064S and the 078S?

The main difference, as the title of the mill suggests, is the size of the flat burrs installed in the mills. One is 64mm and the other is 78mm.
Both grinders are specialized in espresso preparation.
With a maximum output of 400 watts, the motor of the 078S is a lot more powerful than the 150 watt motor of the 064S.
In terms of speed flexibility, the 078S also offers a maximum of 200 revolutions more than the 064S at 1400 rpm.
In terms of workmanship, the two grinders are not that different, but the more compact dimensions and lighter weight of the 064S alone make it seem like the little sister next to the really high-quality 078S.
